FAQs
-
During an IPL Photo Facial, light is absorbed superficially into the skin. The treatment targets pigment-producing cells and problematic hemoglobin and destroys them, dispersing the pigmented, uneven areas on your skin. The pigmented spots are pulled to the surface of your skin, eventually disappearing, revealing a revitalized and even skin tone. In addition, the high-energy light helps stimulate your skin’s natural collagen production, creating a more youthful appearance.
A handheld device then produces light energy and is gently applied to the skin where the pulsed light is emitted. Since the light is bright, you are given a pair of metal protective glasses to wear during your treatment. After the treatment, the treated area is cleaned with a warm cloth and a light moisturizer and sunscreen are applied.

Typically, appointments for an IPL Photo Facial are quick, taking approximately 20 minutes to an hour depending on the areas you are treating.
-
IPL Photo Facial treatments cannot be performed on skin that is tan or burned from sun exposure. Please avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds before the treatment. Self-tanner should not be used two weeks prior to your IPL Photo Facial treatment. Discontinue the use of any topical prescription medications (such as Retin-A, Triluma, Differin) five days before treatment. To achieve maximum results, your provider may recommend another resurfacing treatment, such as a chemical peel , dermaplaning or microneedling in conjunction with an IPL Photo Facial.

Dramatic results can be achieved in 2-3 treatments. However, very large or darker spots, heavily freckled areas, or excessively sun-damaged skin may require more treatments.
-
At first, the treated areas may darken, and the surrounding skin might be a little red which should subside in a couple of hours post-treatment. The darkened spots will fade and flake off in one to three weeks after treatment, giving way to a clearer complexion.
After your treatment, you can go back to normal activities. However, your skin may be sensitive to the sun, so we recommend avoiding exposure and wearing sunblock whenever you are outside (which is always a good idea) following the treatment.
